After my 2011 iMac 27” passed away last week I purchased a MacBook Air M1 2020 and a Lenovo 27-35 monitor and use them with the keyboard and mouse from my dead iMac. The combination works well on the MacBook’s screen but, although I have set my Magic Mouse first generation’s tracking speed to minimum, the cursor on the monitor moves so quickly and imprecisely that clicking on a window’s red, yellow or green dot or selecting items in drop down menus is almost impossible. Would purchasing a mouse such as the Logitech MX Master 3 for Mac with a dpi of 4000 compared to the Magic Mouse’s 1300, and setting its sensitivity/speed to minimum, resolve the problem, or at least reduce it?

Very odd but I doubt very much doubt the problem is a dpi limitation of the Magic Mouse, but don't know what to suggest other than the usual things, unpairing, repairing.

If it is some incompatibility between Lenovo and MM then I guess a Logitech MX might fix it. Do you have any other mice to try out for diagnostic?

I use a Magic Mouse (2nd gen) with 2020 M1 MacBook Air with an external monitor (23.7 LG Ultrafine) and it doesn't have this problem.

Many thanks for your reply. I think my monitor being 27” exacerbates the problem. The cursor is fine for opening apps and files etc on the monitor; it’s only when the movement has to be very precise that there’s an issue.

Magic Mice are widely used on large monitors. It shouldn't be like this.

Problem solved.

I updated to Monterey 12.3 today and, I’ve no idea why, the mouse began moving just as precisely on the monitor as it had always done on the MacBook.
