I ran CM back when I had GS3. I remember it being pretty good on that device.
I've also tried slimROM on it, but didn't like the dark styling.
After the GS3 I had an N5 that stayed stock and currently I use an X rooted w Xposed
I currently use MahdiROM on my G Pad 8.3 and its very nice and stable with some great features.
If you want feedback specific for OmniROM your beat bet is probably the XDA forum for GS3 development. My guess is a well established ROM like that on an older device would likely be pretty stable

Another Xposed user here. I get essentially all of the features I enjoyed in custom ROMs via GravityBox and other modules, without having to wait for devs when a new build of Android is released.
With the Moto X I don't have to worry about a custom ROM, as the stock one is perfect in my eyes. Other wise, I agree with everyone else to just root and use the Xposed repository.
just give it a try. Worst case scenario: you don't like it and flash back to CM11.
I would try resurrection remix rom as its great on features and performance, i believe there is a thread on xda and worth a look, i like omni and pa and slim but this has been stable as
I might have to start back rom'ing again. Sounds like xposed has simplified everything. I remember back in the day you had to cook up your own rom in the xda kitchen and port it yourself.
XPosed has a lot of neat stuff but is still limited (at least insofar as I can't find enough modules). I can't seem to clear out system apps I don't want, theming is woefully limited, for starters.
You guys don't mention what devices are you using. You mean stock AOSP rom or stock software from your manufacturer (Sense, TouchWiz, etc)?
I've been over a week now with Vanir rom on my SGS3. Last week's I've been trying 20 different roms trying to find the one I needed until I found this one and it's perfect.
Turned off the capacitive buttons and enabled the nav bar with the ring and one target for screenshots.
Installed also Gravity Box.
Basically just turned my SGS3 into a Nexus 5 almost.
You won't believe how much faster and fluid my phone is now.Now I'm looking for themes for the new CM11S theme engine.
OP, there are way way more roms better than CM. To me CM is old news. They don't even allow to disable completely the capacitive buttons if you use the nav bar (which I also think is not included in CM) I think or just the menu one. Don't remember exactly.
I would recommend Temasek rom for the SGS3.
I dont feel the need to root and use ROMs anymore with the newest phones but to Root to add a couple of cool things is something id do. Just havent dont it on my N5.
Personally I'm not interested in theming and I use titanium backup if I want to remove system apps.
I'm using the BadBoyz Sense 6 ROM on my Sprint HTC One (M7) at the moment. On my Nexus 7 however, It's completely stock and surprisingly (for me) isn't even rooted. I really don't feel the need to root / install custom ROMs on it as it already has stock Android.
