custom computer running osx

Only if you brought a apple chipset and motherboard.

and 60% sure you would have to used graphic cards sold by apple so that you could install the right drivers
 
so where would i get one of those? also, why wouldnt the motherboard i have listed there work? hackintosh?
 
because i think apple hardwire their chips in to the motherboard, so you would need the motherboard to be able to get the chips.

to get the chips and motherboards you would need to take on from a mac, i think you would need to buy one from a mac pro.
Im not 100% on that so i would do some research, im 95% that yourl need apple chips thought.

Awesome? It's ridiculous.

It's expensive, warranties will be voided, and everything will get oily. You'll have a huge tank full of liquid. It will be heavy as heck and hard to move. It'll be one hell of a mess if it leaks or breaks. It'll be a mess when you upgrade, repair, or replace components. Troubleshooting hardware will be a messy nightmare. You can't use optical or hard drives unless you mount them externally, which will be ugly. And in the end you've still got fans blowing for cooling.

But hey, whatever floats your boat. :rolleyes:

OP, you would have better luck doing a Google search for Hackintosh and starting there. It isn't easy, but it can be done.
 
If you were serious about this endeavor you'd need to either use Apple parts taken from a Mac Pro, or go the hackintosh route. I haven't done much research into hackintoshes but supposedly many people have gotten hackintoshes up and running with little trouble. I think the main concern is to stick with the same types of components as Apple uses, because you need to rely on the drivers that come with OSX (which obviously only exist for hardware Apple sells).

I have to partially agree with mango though- mineral oil PCs are neat but largely impractical. The main benefit is to support massive overclocking but even then, there are other cooling solutions that probably work just as good if not better (water, peltiers, phase change, etc). In the end no matter how much oil there is, the total cooling capacity is going to be governed by the cooling capacity of the radiator. If you want to make a "botique PC" that is oil-cooled though, it can make a very unique and noteworthy centerpiece to an office.

i will still have to mount the ssd on the outside, but i will put the whole computer in a metal cage that will look beast anyways so no harm done

I did... The reason I say for you to stick with Mac is that you choose not to think differently. People try different things to be creative and try to push limits. What is wrong with that? Feel free to be like everyone else but don't put down someone for trying to be different. I've tried several cooling methods for the sake of trying them and if this is something he wants to do than why not?

My apologies if I misunderstood you but that was how I read it.

Since you haven't built a hackintosh before, stick with components from here:

Or you can follow one of the Lifehacker Hackintosh tutorials, because they are step by step. If you use a random motherboard and various other components, chances are that you will run into many problems getting OS X installed.

Only use components from the Hackintosh wiki if you know EXACTLY what you are doing. Often times a guide is not available from the components you choose from there, just kernel extensions, DSDTs, etc.

And I wouldn't suggest using liquid cooling for your first hackintosh. It is complicated to setup and quite expensive. Check out Newegg.com for components.
 
 
ive been running a hackintosh as my main computer for 2 years. everyone told me "its fun to mess with but not reliable enough to use all the time" I have had ZERO problems. I also use my computer in my studio running protools. OSX runs protools better on my hackintosh then protools ran on the SAME computer in windows.......

Not believable. If you don't know the difference between then and than, nothing you say is believable.
 
Same here dude.. my Gateway P-7808u FX gaming laptop runs Snow Leopard and Lion with no problems at all.. 100-300 percent stable and no problems. I am well pleased with its performance. Even though my gateway laptop is by no means like a 2011 macbook pro, its 1900x1200 screen is immensely cool and the processors can be upgraded as high as a QX9300 or Quad Core while I noticed that the macbook pro's processors can't be upgraded at all.

Thats a shame since they make Core 2 extreme processors and or Core ix type extreme processors.

It indicates the ability to have a certain level of knowledge. Not knowing the difference between then and than should send red flags when presented with any recommendation. I understood the post but when anecdotal evidence regarding reliability is mixed with poor grammar, it is not reliable.
