Custom email ringtone volume control won't work

Anyone else notice that if you have a custom email ringtone that you cannot adjust the volume for it or turn it off when it starts???

I can adjust volume and shut off text messages by clicking volume buttons but not email messages.

I could be missing something so if anyone can help me figure this out, it would be very nice!
