I’ve been using custom folder icons for maybe 8 years? I just noticed in a few of my folders the icons are no longer saving and they are going back to default.

I’ve only noticed in in 2 folders my -Documents & a Subfolder in my pictures folder.
**update unlike when they cleared last week I've lost all the custom icons in the pictures folder)

When they went back to default last week I didn’t think much of it and just went and re-added my custom Icons back. (.INCS). Took about 45 minutes, no big deal but now that they vanished again I'd rather ID the root casue.

I haven’t updated Big Sur in a 3months or cleared any of my caches or anything so not sure what could have caused this.

Big Sur 11.2.3

Current release is 11.6. I'd recommend going ahead and getting macOS up to date first, then change a few of the icons back to your custom ones and see if the issue is resolved.

The computer its happening on is a Mac Pro 5,1 so right now going past 11.2.3 isn't working great without additional open core adjustments.

FWIW neither of my macbook pros which are running 11.6 have ever had this issue.

Are your MBPs officially supported by Big Sur or are they also older, non-supported machines like your Mac Pro? I'm not knowledgeable about running Big Sur on unsupported hardware, but my gut instinct tells me that must have something to do with the issue you're having.

Yes the MBP are both supported.

I actually **THINK** figured it out it was something more silly.

I was syncing some folders using Hazel and the ones whose custom icons changed got out fo sync somehow so it went back to the default. Is my best guess. I don't have Hazel running on the other 2 computers and any folders with custom icons did not lose the icons.

Fingers crossed thats the issue! .

Ugh turns out the hazel sync issue wasn't it. Icons went back to default.

I really don't think its related to the OS since i've had this version working without the icons changing for months, and its not like all of the custom icons chagned.

I'll keep digging.

Ugh so Turning off Hazel for a few days did not help.

The only real change I have made on my system in the last few months is installing the new Google Drive.

Hoping to ID a fix soon
