Wouldn’t that just be referencing the in-house graphic chips Apple started manufacturing last generation, with the (A11/12)?

Yeah, I think Bloomberg is off on this one or someone didn't do their homework. The GPU is integrated into the SOC and Apple (says) it's GPU cores have been custom since the A11—although some 3rd parties question that. A beefier GPU would be almost expected but a radically different GPU than the A12 in the XS/XR seems very unlikely. And certainly not new. Bloomberg hints very strongly that they've got inside sources telling them concert details instead of just regurgitating Kou's rumors so maybe there is something totally new. We'll see Tuesday!

If you see the die shots of the SoC, the graphics execution units look like the solar panels on the ISS.

The A?X vs the A? will typically be the same, just with double the number of solar panels ;)

Well even if the GPU in the new iPads isn’t radically different it will still be their first custom GPU in an iPad, since the iPads never got A11 or a variant. The X chips usually do have beefier GPUs so I’d assume the A12X will follow the same trend.

AH. That is a good point. Perhaps that’s what was meant. New for the iPad.

The only “proof” that could be used that the iPad will be receiving a custom GPU is for Adobe’s full photoshop that will be coming next year. While photoshop doesn’t a require heavy GPU, this could be for the more “Pro” apps coming. X-Code, final cut…etc Being able to render 4K images or edit up to 4K video and then use the USB-C to output in 4K.
