Hi guys, I have managed to get HIDPI resolutions working on my MBP. Above is the link to my post on the thread where most discussion about this has been taking place.

This hasn’t fixed things for Mac mini users unfortunately

Hey bro, it's actually work well for me when connect MBA M1 with Dell 2k. I thanks you a lot with that solution!!!

But I frequently have some problems:
  • The performance somehow is slow. When I mouse move the mouse, its so laggy, the frame drop dramatically, after about 1-2 minutes, it backs to normal
  • It made my Macbook hotter
Have you experience those problems? Do you se the the HDMI to type C or use a Hub when connecting with external display?

Not sure if you're aware, but the MBA has a reduced GPU, and no fan. This is probably why. Your issues seem to be thermal throttling related. You could try buying a cooling pad.

No it works fine when not use 'Mirroring Display' feature. And the temperatures still cool. Your Macbook Pro does not meet my issues? You connect directly with external monitor by Type-C??

Oh man thanks so much for this, it works brilliantly. I've really missed having a custom hidpi resolution on my 1440p monitor since switching to an M1 Macbook. Also as a bonus I noticed that using this method my external monitor seems to wake up far more reliably than it ever used to (I'd previously frequently have to unplug/replug my hdmi cable when the macbook woke from sleep).

Good to hear that can be done but unfortunately it does not make big difference when feeding 2560x1440 HiDPI (using 5120x2880) IMHO. I had opportunity to test that myself when I got my 4K monitor and I was able to trick my old QHD monitor in that HiDPI mode when I had both monitors connected to my Mini M1. Some fonts looked nicer but all in all not even remotely comparable to what say 3008x1692 or 2560x1440 looks in 4K monitor. Probably if one finds lower than 2560x1440 desktop looks like resolution enough then it might be more acceptable but I could not settle any less screen estate. So in the end I got LG 32UN880-B 32" 4K monitor and I use 3008x1692 and it looks amazing, all fonts are just excellent.

Hello,

I checked today and noticed HiDPI options were available for my 1440p Display today, with 144Hz as well! My monitor is an Acer XF270HUA. This is potentially great news, as this is the reason many people use BetterDummy!

All this on a MacBook Pro 13" M1 2020!
