I'm trying to make some custom home screen icons for web bookmarks on my new iPad. I'm using this little bookmarklet to do this:

http://pastebin.com/hWW4ewsA

It works great for websites that don't have an apple touch icon already specified, but for the ones that already do (Facebook, eBay, PayPal), the one defined by the website seems to take over. Those old icons look terrible (pretty sure they're designed for the old 57x57 size) on the iPad's new screen, and I'd love to be able to change them... The bookmarklet method works when I first add it to the home screen, but as soon as I tap that icon, it switches back to the low-res icon defined by the website. Does anybody have a work-around for this? I'd love to hear your thoughts - I can't be the only one that's going crazy because of these ugly, pixelated icons!

if the icon is defined in the site, it updates whenever it's launched, so you'd have to figure out a way to re-introduce the header that includes your custom icon every time you view the page.

the 3 sites you mentioned have dedicated apps that probably work much better than a webpage, have you checked those out?

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of their app offerings... I'm kind of picky, as you can tell, haha. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into that.
