Custom iMac Core i7 Shipping from Cali?

I ordered a custom iMac with SSD and 1TB HDD and it just shipped from Rancho Cordova California via Fedex to Canada. I have never had a computer ship from there. Usually it comes directly from China or from local stock at the warehouse. Are they building iMacs in Cali now?
 
I think they have an assembly facility in california now, but I'm sure all the components are still manufactured in Asia. I ordered an i7 iMac on the release day last week and my machine was also shipped directly from california.
 
Just received my 2.93, i7, 2Tb+256SSD, 8GB (2x4) + MagicMouse+MagicTrack+Battery Charger from CA.Actually labled assembled in USA. I too was wondering, WTF?. Flawless iMac, no problems and did all the tests! Enjoy one of the few American assembled Apple products. Take care!
 
My First Post and First Mac

I just got the email saying it shipped my i7 this afternoon from Union City; it will be here by Friday. FedEx being in Memphis is awesome.

For whatever reason they shipped my MobileMe seperatley two days ago from Nashville.

Anywho, I can't wait. Should arrive shortly after work

My cto 2010 27" came from Cali as well. Only took a day im transit as I am in SF. Screen was perfect and said assembled in USA on the label.

Only problem was the stand was bent. Possibly shipping damage. New one should be here Monday.
 
On apple order's page, it is said to be delivered on Aug 14, on fedex it suppose to be delivered on 11th, which one should I trust?

And my free printer is forever on the route of RENO, NV. No more update since then.

Apple should really switch to a better shipping carrier, more on time log update, better handling service.

Go by the date Fedex reports.

Once the system ships, the carrier has the most accurate information.

Apple's site often estimates extra days for build-shipping and accounts for the longest possile scenario.

Same here with my 21.5" i5. I don't think mine is coming today like they said. No update since Calgary and it's still on the wrong side of the country :mad:

The iMacs are assembled in China and ship from there. When a custom order originates in the US it is likely a returned item. There was a thread a while back about someone confirming this.

This happens early in the product lifecycle before refurbs are available. Either way, it will function and look as new so it's no biggy. Unless it was returned b/c of the screen.

Mine should be here any minute. Also was routed through Calgary but no delay, shipped on Wed delivers by 10:30am Friday. Good luck with yours.
 
I just received my third replacement for my Late-2009 i7 iMac, for which they gave me the new 2.93 i7. As a result of my continued troubles, I have long since been dealing with an Executive Relations Manager who has handled all of my troubles outstandingly, always making sure I got whatever I wanted in order to keep me happy. Long story short, he mentioned that they have essentially VIP production capabilities in California, should any, well VIP order a system. This way each machine goes through an extensive pre-test, etc. Now I'm not suggesting that every machine built in Cali receives this treatment. I believe my machine was sourced from there more for expediency's sake than because of VIP status.

However, one can imagine that if Steve's or even Forstal's best friend (they must have some) wanted a loaded iMac, I doubt they refer them to their local store or online for Chinese stock...

Very interesting indeed! Too bad my iMac most likely wont be from California..
 
My i7 2.93 shipped from Newark, CA then went to Sacramento. No new update since yesterday at 8:08am.

Originally FedEx gave Saturday August 7th as my ship date & now it has changed to Tuesday the 10th. :(

Less than 4 days to go!!!! :D

ppl spent $2200 for a returned item?? How it that possible

Actually, many iMacs people are receiving were assembled in the USA. This can be confirmed by the serial number, I believe the ones that start with "QP".

Dont listen to this, its not true. Rest assured, your brand new imac is indeed brand new. He is right that refurbs usually originate out of Cali, but that does not mean that all imacs out of Cali are refurbs. Im guessing they just built a nice stock pile of new macs in the US in order to prevent shipping delays with the new release.
 
Can anyone confirm this?

HP sold refb machine as new one to customer in china caused quite a news back then.
 
Well my custom order has a serial number starting QP so I tend to believe it more likey they are pieced together in Cali than being returns of items barely off the assembly line and yet already shipped, returned, fixed/rebuilt, repacked and ship again. My packaging and unit looked mint to me.

Mine too and same QP serial as well. It can't possibly be a return item as I ordered the new imac the day it was released!

How on earth could someone confirm this?

Actually, this makes perfect sense. Since it seems most new 27" iMacs sold in the US have been shipped from California, they must all be refurbs. Where did all of these used / returned / refurb'd units come from? Yeah, this makes perfect sense.

Well I got it yesterday. I'll upload some pictures later, but the package was slightly damaged when I got it (thank god it didn't have to travel further).

Upon review of the computer I found a 1mm scratch on the glass in the bottom right corner hardly noticeable unless you're looking for it on white. No yellow tint or dead pixels. Looks great though after I wiped off some of the residue from the protector.

I played some SC2 on it, ultra and max resolution and it ran like a dream but the machine got nice and hot (161F max on GPU in a room ~72F). I lowered the res a notch and tweaked the graphics to a medium high; still runs pretty hot and you never hear the fan.

What I have noticed though is touching the top gets pretty hot and there's a slight vibration (the fans I reckon).

Other details some may want to hear is it has the Western Digital HD and not a Segate. It also has a QC serial and states it was built the week of 8/6
