I have successfully changed the lock and unlock sounds for my phone. It is a white 3g 16gb from 2008. It is jailbroken with pwnage and running a custom 3.1.2, baseband 4.26. I am using Fugu and SSH to change the sound files. I have two WAV files that I have converted. I used Audacity to try and reduce the volume of the clips, then I used itunes to convert them to .aif then imported them with Fugu as the required .caf.

Now that the intro is out of the way here is my issue- the sounds blare out when they are activated. It doesn't matter how loud or quiet the original file is, as soon as it is played as the unlock tone, it is the same volume, loud. When I play the .caf on my iBook with Quicktime, I have to put my ear next to the speaker to hear it but it blares out of the phone. Anyone have any ideas other than "pick a different sound"?

i know what you mean. I wish they had a system app that let you config the volume of each sound.
