ok..this friggin phone has brought out my innermost nerd but here goes....

1. in TEXTEDIT, type "John Smith is calling"

2. fire up AUDIOHIJACK http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/ and hijack TEXTEDIT

3. hit record & quickly switch over to TEXTEDIT and go EDIT-SPEECH-START SPEAKING

4. your mac will speak whatever you typed in (i chose the Victoria voice but do as u wish)

5. Sop recording

6. u now have an 'aiff file of your ID announcement on your desktop

7. open this file with Final Cut Pro (or any other editing app u have access to) & loop it for 30 seconds at whatever repeat speed u like.

8. TIP: add an audio EQ to take the bass out cuz the little iPhone speakers dont handle low end well (they distort)

9. export your 30 second sequence as a mono AIFF

10. use Itunes to convert it to an mp3 (i went 64kbps mono)

11. use iToner to easily add it as a ringtone

Thats it! Sounds harder than it is but its soooooo handy to NOT have to take the fone out of your pocket when listening to music...the tunes just fade out & u hear "John Smith is calling."

Its sweet.

I was not aware you could assign different ring tones to different members of your phone book...?
So is it always saying "John Smith is calling" or can you assign different ring tones?
