Custom notifications?

I haven't seen specific mention of this feature, so don't know if it hasn't been mentioned or if I just missed it.

Any word on whether you'll be able to customize notifications that come up on the watch? By that, I mean a specific haptic pattern, for example for a particular contact? Not just on/off for an entire app or feed, but like you can have individual ringtones and vibration patterns on the iPhone.

That way, you'll know who texted/emailed just by the vibration pattern.

I guess it's a possibility.

But is raising your wrist to look that difficult though?

I kind of had the same thought as jablinga - if I were in charge of the software this would be pretty low on my list since it's so easy to just turn your wrist to see the notification.

However, they did this for directions in the map app, so who knows?

No - it's not that it's difficult, but there will be situations where glancing at your phone/watch is not acceptable - yet you need to know if you get a message/call from a particular contact.

Parents would not want to miss a call from their child's school or caretaker, but could let other messages wait.

Making sure a message from your significant other doesn't get lost in a sea of other notifications.

I agree - not necessarily a game changer, but a feature that I see has some benefit & I just wondered if it had been announced - that's all.

I'm sure it would be possible, but a temporary fallback is just to make a custom vibration on your iPhone for now since to get notifications on the watch it has to be in the vicinity of the phone anyway.

Phone can be close enough to connect with the watch, and yet be too far to feel the vibrations. This is actually why the idea of the watch is attractive to many people. A watch is truly always on you, while the phone is often in my purse, on my desk, in the other room, etc.
