My sport loop band on my AW5 has stretched. In order to get a snug fit, the end of it laps over the bottom of the watch face.

Using the Apple watch band sizing tool, I take a size 2 band. My wrist measures 150 mm.

Since the sport loop is made of woven nylon, am thinking of cutting it down and using a flame to melt the cut end so it doesn't ravel. Might not look as snappy, but at least it will fit better. Still would have four of the velcro attachment points.

Wondering if anyone has done this before.

Okay... what in the world are you trying to ask? You mention three different types of bands: woven nylons, sport loops, and allusions to the solo braided loops. I have no idea what you’re asking. I’m going to assume you’re trying to ask if cutting then subsequently burning a solo braided loop will fix your issues.

No. That’s a horrible idea. You’ll unravel the band and it’ll never be as tight of a weave as it once was. Your burning won’t hold the two sides together very well. Also, that’s an utter waste of $99. Just sell it and buy the next size down.

If you’re asking about a sport loop, it’s still a horrible idea. Just buy a different band. You’re wasting your money needlessly burning products you could just sell and replace instead.

Also, that sizing tool has nothing to do with the sport loops. Sport loops are a one size fits all design, and have no flexibility in sizing. That sizing tool is designed specifically for the solo loops and solo braided loops.

I think you confused a lot of people because you mentioned "woven nylon" which is actually another band style that Apple has made in the past. The sports loops are not the same thing as the woven nylon band, although it is true that they are both made from nylon material.

The band is made of nylon weave, according to Apple. I guess I should have quoted that description.

I think mentioning Apples sizing guide was the biggest red herring as it only applies to the solo and braided loop.

But to get back to the matter at hand, as has been mentioned I would say sell the current band and get another (maybe keep an eye on eBay as well as you can get colours that are no longer available from Apple) ?

It‘s your band, and not a holy grail :)
I would be tempted to try cutting it if I had your problem, the sport loop is such a comfortable band. But I have only tried on fake bands, not an Apple made one, so I have no idea how/if the ends melt together. Maybe someone on youtube has tried?

Thanks, JuneJune! Did it this evening and it worked quite nicely. Nice to be able to wear it snugly now. The cut edge sealed well using a flame.

I'd like to see the actual cut edge, if you don't mind taking a picture of it.

i know you have already done it but if you ever need to cut and burn again first wrap the part you want to cut with scotch tape, then make the cut and while the tape is still on burn it. after it cools you can remove the tape. i learned this method cutting nylon rifle slings and it makes a very clean neat end.
