So I am cord cutting for the second time. The first time I was younger and poorer and couldn't afford cable so it was out of necessity. This time, I have Xfinity X1 and have come to enjoy it and access to the Apple TV network apps. The outrageous monthly cost has really gotten to me and I have decided to go without. I mostly just watch network tv (no cable channels) and sports (regional sports network [RSN], NBCSports Bay Area). Since I live in the SF Bay Area with a clear line of sight to the towers, I get all the networks clearly for free, and my monthly Comcast bill just gets me on-demand access to network TV and my RSN. I've decided to go with an HDHomeRun device with the Channels app + DVR to get the networks. The second component is MLB dot TV (I watch NBA too but I am willing to give that up). Last time I used Unblock-US with MLB to watch my local team and I hope to do that again. The third component is Netflix. These 3 components are necessary for me. I have essentially 2 questions and I am open to other thoughts.
1. I plan to purchase a NAS to handle the DVR. I plan to buy the HDHomeRun Quattro. I'd like to keep the NAS below $200, preferably around $150. I've never used a NAS before. This is essentially all I plan to use it for but I may also use it for other things in the future (storage and backup). Which one should I buy? I have no idea where to start.
2. I previously ran into an issue with Unblock-US and Netflix. Everything worked fine until Netflix started blocking DNS services like unblock-us. Outside of the US, people use unblock-us to access the US version of Netflix. I am trying to figure out if it is possible to, at the router level, direct only MLB.TV traffic to the Unblock-us DNS servers while all other traffic goes to the normal DNS servers. My router is a Netgear R6250. It has to be router or network level so it can work on the Apple TV. Having it on my computer will not work.
I would greatly appreciate any knowledge that any of you could share.
