cyclic redundancy error in windows

I have a brand new iMac about 2 weeks old and half the time when I try to torrent something I get a cyclic redundancy error... When I looked this up it typically means whatever drive is trying to read/write is damaged.

Does this mean that my HDD is damaged or that my partition is damaged or could be either one? I have downloaded over 15GB on my OSX partition and everything seems fine, it hasn't happened once yet in OSX.

Should I try to delete my partition and re-install windows? If that doesn't work should I try and install a different download of Windows? What do you think my best approach to this is?

Generally it means your drive is damaged but its weird if you aren't getting problems in Mac too (Did you run a hard drive test in Mac?)

I could be wrong but I think disk utility only scans the Mac partition. You could try running check disk in windows and see if it finds anything, open command prompt and type in chkdsk /R

Also if it finds and repairs things I would say do this:

1. Delete your windows partition and give it back to Mac.
2. Run hard disk utility on your entire drive under Mac.
3. If your drive comes up with errors I would suggest getting it swapped out. (Real errors, not permissions errors, you'll know if its real errors).
4. If no errors, reinstall Windows.


Hard drives are one of those items that can go at absolutely any time. There is no magical formula but try the steps above first.

If by using Disk utility you mean hitting "Verify Disk" then that's what I did with nothing coming up.

I can't click on Repair disk.

I will check in windows!
