I had just updated my jailbroken 2.2 3g iphone to 2.2.1

When i try to restore it using itunes, cydia disappears.

What am I doing wrong or better yet, how do i get cydia back on?

thanks

Sounds like you un-jailbroke your phone.

Did you update it using jailbreaking software? Or did you just do it straight from iTunes? If did not use the patched firmware that the jairbreaking programs provide, then you un-jailbroke your phone.

Sounds liek you did what upaymeifixit said!

Just just QuickPwn and cydia will come back :)

IF your on Mac you need to remember and use one of the DFU tricks.

thanks for the reply guys.

what i did was jailbreak with pwnagetool.

i restore control clicking and going to the custom restore firmware.

Then it starts up as a new iphone and activates via itunes.

After that i chose to restore to my old settings. This is when i lose cydia.

Did you have Cydia hidden with Categories?

If you did, then it is still there, just hidden.

yes, i actually had it hidden with sbsettings....
what should i do to get it back?

should i install sbsettings first and then restore?

If you go into settings, then General, then restriction, and then enable restrictions, it should unhide anything that is hidden. At least thats what Ive read. I havent tried it, but it can't hurt anything.

You shouldn't need to restore anything now. Its all there already.

Ok, I've tried everything and nothing seemsnto restore my settings ann keep cydia.

I need cydia so I can access to videos I took using cycorder of my daughters.

My last option, I think, is to try quickpwn.

I'll do that in a bit and post my results.

Is there anyway to grab files from a backup of my iPhone??

Ok, I never did use quickpwn. But just messing with my iphone, I the restriction thing and it didnt work.

But then I decided to turn off restriction just for the hell of it before i was going to update using quickpwn.

Lo and behold, cydia and installer were back on the springboard!!!!

this is of course good news, but unfortunately after using aptbackup, i cant get my old videos back from cycorder :-(

im really upset about this. i had a lot of great memories of my daughters. i have learned my lesson now though and will back up everything frequently and before i update.
