Raven, what kind of mighty warhammer did i get that gets carried away by a mere stream of water?! Or is there some kind of Niagara falls next to us (would explain why no goblin heard all the commotion..)?

Seems about right.

Glad I didn't do the head-butt attack though. :D

Nice shot Portia.

Orders: I grab the war hammer from the water and give it back to Veit.

I then check if I can recover any arrows from the dead wolves and quickly search the room looking especially for other entrances.

Comment to everyone: I doubt our future battles will be as easy as the last one. I suggest that both the Count and Veit take the lead and we continue in all haste since someone might have heard the wolves. If there are no other entrances in this room, let's take the other corridor to the left in the main cave.

I say to Master Frostbeard
> they are a bit scrappy, put even in these conditions wolf pelts are bound to fetch a coin or three in phandalin, especially with the winter coming soon
We definitively should stop on the way out and collect them.
Oh, and don't forget your handaxe

*meanwhile I don the shield, put the axe and the javelin away and take out the scimitar

@ravenvii, can you please repost the description of what we are able to see? I am now standing on the steps that connects the main passage to the slaughterhouse

Question to the DM: how would have you treated a situation where syllin used prestidigitation to either
a) make the goblin smell/taste like something the wolves liked (e.g. Rabbit)
B) made one or more of us smell like a goblin (e.g. Portia)

You make a dash down the stream and attempt to grab the warhammer --

The warhammer is light and fairly easy to spot in the shallow water, so I give it a DC of 5. I'd say this uses your dexterity, so you get a +3, so you only need a 2, easy, right?

Claus: 12

You step over the wolves' bodies and scan the room. You spot a hole going upwards. It seems the rubble -- and the rubbish -- came down from the hole. That is the only other opening in the cave chamber.

>>> @Plutonius don't forget to update your entry on the wiki -- you permanently lost one arrow.

You recover all of your equipment. You watch as Claus does the same and step into the room. Like Claus, you spot the hole in the wall that leads upwards.

>>> if you make the goblin smell tasty to the wolves, the DC to tame them would've dropped down to 10. If you made one of yourselves smell like a goblin the consequences would've been obvious -- the wolves will ignore that person.

Do we see a way up through the hole (ladder, rope, etc) ?

Note - It might be good if you could include a small map of what we see (even a crude ascii sketch).

You approach the hole to take a better look. There are no ladders or ropes, but you could, with some difficulty, climb up the hole.

Is it dark up the hole ?

Portia (@Moyank24) sneaking / climbing up the hole is an option (if the area is lit). If it's clear, we could all head up there. Otherwise, I think there was a left hand turn back in the main cave (we turned right into the wolf cave).

I will not be online as much the next few days so someone else will need to push the action (I'm looking at you Veit).

A question occurs, not that I am contesting a natural desire to satisfy our curiosity as to what may lay there.

What about the other cavern opening further up the original tunnel? Are we to ignore it for now, to follow this fresh distraction?

While neither my Darkvision enhanced eyes, (nor our esteemed DM, Master @ravenvii), have suggested that anything untoward - such as hordes of goblins - might pour from there, are we all turning our attention to this (fresh) hole in the roof of the wolves' cave chamber?

I recollect my other handaxe - curse my not-so mighty warhammer and will say this: Since it appears that the rubbish was thrown down through the hole, which was also guarded by wolves so to say, I assume it would lead us to more private parts of the cave, the other entrance may be guarded more severely and could contain a trap or two as well. The sneaky approach would be trying to climb up the hole. Let's just hope we enter the kitchen... and not the ... toilet.

Also, I could enlighten your dagger or sword, Portia - whatever colour deems you best (not sure about a rainbow-glow but I will see into that if need be) - so in case you take the initiative and go all-ninja into that entrance you could gain an advantage and get a better view. While you go up and scout ahead we others should probably guard the other entrance to this room and prepare for a surprise attack in case some goblins want to visit their pets..

You look up the hole and could discern a source of light of some sort up there.

I thought you left already?

Thank you.

If Portia doesn't want too, I'll do it myself. Since there is quite likely no point in going up when not all of us can do it I can try it myself. Also, please correct me Ravenvii, there should nobody be as experienced as me climbing through holes like this as a dwarf - especially when raised in the great mines up north!

while we wait for Portia to start whistling Chim-Chim-Cher-ee and promptly climb up the chimney,
i loiter around the doghouse to see if anything of value might be laying about
as i do this, i notice that my fine clothes have been most disdainfully soiled but all the wolf-blood spraying up from their mutilated bodies.

> Pray, dear Syllin, if it is not too much trouble, would you mind practice that remarkable Prestidigitation trick of yours and get rid of all this hideous soiling from my vestments?
It shall be most embarrassing to show up to whoever is ruling this dreadful establishment in an attire which is not a thread more civilized than their own. (@Scepticalscribe)

> And, Master Fletcher, I would think that having me and Master Frostbeard in the frontline of a situation that requires combat is indeed a wise approach.
However, i daresay that as long as our object is to remain undetected form the likely unfriendly inhabitants of these caves, it might be wiser still that the two of us do not, in fact, charge ahead, as while our chainmails do provide excellent protection from enemy attacks, they do not, i am afraid, enhance much our stealth and nimbleness
note: the way i read the 'light' cantrip, if Veit casts it again, for example on something of Portia's, the previous spell on Claus's sword would terminate. it doesn't mean that would be more useful this way at the moment, but something to remember.
also, we have torches (Veit Claus) and a hooded lantern (portia), so those are always an option

> Hmm, any sneaking up that hole with thick chainmail is bound to raise suspicion I fear.

What about we outfox the goblins and think of some way to get them leaving the cave - for example because they suspect an attack? Once they recognized false alarm we already scouted the upper level, possibly found the prisoners (in case they're still here) and prepare for our retreat.

Still would be good to know how many of these buggers bugger around. Twenty? Fifty?
[doublepost=1457717776][/doublepost]> We could drag the wolves in front of the other entrance for example and set them on fire. Surely they won't think about the small hole we crawl up and then we can at least outflank them.

But anyway, would be important either way that Portia sneaks up undetected and takes a quick glance at the level above before we decide what to do exactly.

Thaumaturgy could be helpful if you plan some tricks like that

I won't start any planning until you say it's not a dumb idea! :D
well, that depends on the actual plan doesn't it?
let see if Portia can get up there and if so what she can find.
right now there are three options: going up the chimney -if possible-, going forward in the main passage along the stream, or taking the other tunnel on the opposite side.
and if we attract attention, that also could come from any of the 3
