I've always had problems getting desired results from ffmpegx. I stumbled upon D-Vision a couple of days ago and have used it to *backup* 10 DVDs to Xvid and it has worked a charm. Very simple to use and straight forward. It also contains other tools like merging VOBs, AVI's and a bunch of stuff which I'm sure others will find useful.

It's written by some French people, but lets not hold that against them ;)

PS Anyone outthere know how to convert a DivX into a VCD?

For all those stuff you are talking about... did you try Toast 7?

I only know of ffmpegX which is sometimes tempermental but usually works great.
