I'm im the market for a nMP. I have 3 thunderbolt monitor. Someday i will upgrade to 3x4k. Will yhe D300 be able to run these without lag? I know they say yes but they say my 11 inch mba can run 2 tb monitors and it struggles with 1 (lag because of too many windows).

Am i better off waiting a year or I'm 100% certain the D300 can do the job? I want to future proof this thing without spending too much...

There are substantial differences in performance between all of the options. The D700 for example offers 75% more single precision compute than the D300 and 56% more than the D500. All of the GPUs have the same number of render backends however, so all of them should be equally capable of driving a 4K display.

Thanks virtual rain. I'm reading like you 2 dp monitir @60hz and 1 hdmi@30hz seem to be the max.

I'm underwhelmed and will be waiting for next year's upgrade. I'm not spendong 4k+ on a cpu which won't be doing exactly what i want long term. Sigh.

Not surprised. Apple always does this. See first 11inch mini with core2duo. Always better to get the second revision i guess...

When the first Intel Mac Pro came out in 2006 I bought it and am glad I did. Had I waited for a more significantly powerful model, I would have had to wait until 2009 when the nehalem's came out.
Point being you might not get much improvement for awhile.

agreed about processor speed but I'm sure the next model will be able to support 2x 4k correctly if this once can't. graphics update fast these days and it's the only part we can't easily upgrade.... sucks I wanted one now...

Truth!

I've been on 3,1 for the longest and never felt compelled seeing the same gradual speed bumps and spec boosts. Definitely a happy camper being a beta tester for the nmP
