Don’t forget to also use a program like iStat Menus to control the fan. If the GPUs go over 60 C you’ll want the fan running full speed. Someone in another thread said they start to get heat damaged over 70 C. After that you’ll have the screen flicker issue or worse.

I don’t think the D300s are prone to overheating like the D500s and D700s, but it wouldn’t hurt to keep them cool just in case. You could monitor the temps with one of the 3rd party apps like iStat menus and Macfancontrol.
