Daily kernel panics on an iMac

I hae an Aluminum iMac (20" base configuration). I am getting daily kernel panics, sometime more than one per day. They seem to happen with no rhyme or reason.

Thus far, I have tested the RAM and done an erase and install of OS X 10.5. The RAM tested out just fine, and the kernel panics continue to happen.

Anything else that I should test before calling Apple.

Also, I want to get this thing fixed or replaced as quickly as possible. I have read several horror stories of multiple trips to the store, Apple returning the machines with the problem still occurring, etc. Any advice?

Seems like there is a Hardware Problem, Maybe something is wrong with the Logic Board.

I would call Apple and ask if you can get this fixed or Replaced.

If the RAM is OK, then your hard drive might be failing. There is a keyboard shortcut to drop you to a command line on boot up, but I don't remember it. Once there you can type in a command that will essentially checkdsk your hard drive.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I've only had a mac a short while.

What did u use to test your RAM?? Most RAM tests are unreliable, try using Rember, google it and let it run for a loop and see what happens.

I ran Rember for four (4) cycles last night, and everything showed up just fine.

Just a few minutes ago, I zapped the PRAM. We'll see if that helps.

Zapping the PRAM did the trick. It's been over a week, with heavy usage, and not one kernel panic.

I have an iMac 17" 2.0 Ghz 2Gb Memory 250 GB HD and I have the same exact problem you have, Kernel Panics, a couple a day. I would get the colorful wheel and long delays sometimes freezing.... I first would hear my fan and get the kernel panic, causing my computer to freeze and forcing me to restart if I want to use my computer again.

I tested my memory several times as well to find that my memory tested fine, no problems....

I just tried Zapping the PRAM and 5 minutes worth of use so far, I notice my computer is running smoother. Not sure how long this will last, hopefully forever!

I wonder if your Kernel Panic never showed again since its been about 9 months.....
