Well long story short, I ordered a refurb 27" iMac I5 for the girlfriend and it arrived with a vibrating/noisy HDD fan (makes the noise regardless of rpm) and could be heard across a quiet room.
Dropped it off at a Apple Store and was told that they will call me in 1 to 2 days..well 3rd day rolled around and I called them myself. Took forever to get hold of somebody and they said that a test was ran on the imac but nobody recorded the outcome...a re-test was required. Received a call back the same day but they could not hear anything in their "quiet" room.
Scheduled an appointment to go in and show them the sound, but they would not allow me to go into the "quiet" room to point it out to them (how do they expect to hear a vibrating fan right at the genius bar?). I was then getting ready to pack it back up and send it back when I noticed the base was all scratched up. Pointed it out to the guy and he got the manager; manager then tried for half an hour to swap my refurb for a brand new I5..but none-the-less the system would not allow him to do so.
Called Apple and they e-mailed me my return info and setup another refurb for overnight. I am out of town right now and will be back tomorrow..I told the guy and he said it would be best for me to ship it to my home address since it could take longer than 24 hours for it to ship out.
Well it did ship out the next day and was expected to be delivered today..I called Fedex early in the morning and was told that they require at least one delivery attempt before they will hold it for pick up. Later in the day, I checked the tracking and it showed delivered. The signature was with my first initial and my last name (which was spelled wrong and the package was under my girlfriends name), and it also had a note that it was left with the security guard up front (I live in a gated condominium). The security guard is not allowed to receive and hold any packages for the residence, but I called them regardless to check, and was informed that they did not receive anything.
Fedex said they required around 10 days to do a investigation on it. Apple said they will transfer it over to their trace department(?).
Regardless, I am now having to wait until the investigation is over until they will either send me out a replacement or refund me my money. Class is starting next week...
