As said above, you won't get an iPhone replaced for cosmetic damage as the warranty does not cover that. Also, the warranty, standard or AppleCare, does not cover accidental damage. The back will be sufficient proof that whatever problems your iPhone has now or ever will have in the future was likely caused by the drop.

So, assuming you meant "warranty" instead of "insurance," you won't be getting a replacement.

Maybe you should be speaking with your insurer and not us? If you already knew this, what exactly is your question?

I was just wondering as it was the case damaged but now the screeen is freezing I will on Monday. Do you think they will let me pay extra for the 16 GB iPhone?

I don't think any of us seem to have any familiarity with your insurer... so we have no idea. ;)

Its a carphone warehouse company called lifeline. it covers accidental damage including water damage

I'm pretty sure that what mkrishnan was suggesting is that you are asking a question to the wrong people. Knowing the name of the company that insured your iPhone isn't going to clue us on to the nuances of their replacement policies.

I suggest reading through the paperwork they provided you or giving them a call.

Okay... so I'm bored.

Lifeline Insurance Phone Policy

2. Damage to your phone
Your mobile phone is covered for accidental damage, including damage caused by water or other liquids.

a. We may repair your phone if it has been damaged and can be repaired. If it costs too much to repair it, we will replace it with a similar model, as long as you have paid your premium and bring the damaged phone to The Carphone Warehouse. We will not repair the phone if it has broken down and is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

In other words, they will either repair the cosmetic damage (unlikely) or replace the phone. Typically in insurance contracts the catch word is "similar." They are very, very unlikely to entertain the idea of you getting an upgrade, even if you pay the difference, except in the case that the model you have insured is now so outdated that it isn't made anymore. In that situation, you'll get the similar 'level' of product.

For instance, if today you bought the 8GB iPhone you'd be buying the lower of the two models available. If you dropped your iPhone in the toilet a year from now they would likely replace it with the lower version of whatever iPhones are available at that time.

In short, according to the documentation from your insurer, to your first question: yes, they will replace it so long as you're paid up. To your second: no, you cannot upgrade to the 16GB.

And similar to other cell phone insurers like Safeware etc, be prepared to have your policy cancelled after that. It is usually a use it and lose it type thing but well worth it if something truly happens.

something similar happened to me

i was out at a club and dropped my iphone when i was drunk and the top button got dented in to the point that it was stuck and my iphone was continually rebooting unless connected to a power source...i took it to the genius bar at my local store..first they said that rather than buying a new one they will allow me to get a new 8gb one for $250 as a replacement...i didnt really have a choice since the phone was not functional so I agreed to it...when i was checking out the manager came by and took a look at the phone and said "you're good to go, we'll cover it...thanks again" and i got my replacement for free

so your best bet is to try and do it in person - you may get lucky like i did
