I had upgraded a 17 inch MacBook Pro to Monterey using OCLP. It ran very nicely.
An update for OCLP came out so I started to install it. It appeared to have stalled, or locked - which the MacBook would do from time to time. So I pressed the power button until it shut down.
When it started up it had the ? symbol. When I tried to install the original operating system - High Sierra - it gave me the circle and slash. It gave that to me on Catalina and Monterey as well.
Now, when I attempt to erase the hard drive, it sits on "waiting for partitions to activate.
When I do diskutil list I usually get disk0. But it won't mount.
Considering that it had been upgraded to Monterey, it had a data side and an OS side. If it is looking for a single partition like it had when it ran on High Sierra, that could be a long time?
How long should I wait for a 1 Tb SSD to finish such a process? And would it be better to use TestDisk, or similar software to try to find and re-establish the partitions? And would that even work for an SSD that had been set up to run Monterey?
I can be as patient as is needed but I need to know what things to expect and how to follow through correctly.
Thanks for any tips or help.
P.S. If this is the wrong forum for this question, please move it to where it needs to be. I did think about putting it on the OpenCore Forum.
