Dammit, I may need to sell my iMac ;_;

I'm going off to Uni to do Graphic Design and I own an Intel 17" iMac (2Gb ram and 250Gb hd).


Will carrying my iMac back and forth from Uni (maybe once or twice every 6 weeks?) kill it? Once it's in my room there it won't get moved apart from when I come home - the Uni is all networked to the max.


So yeah, will I be able to keep my lovely iMac? I don't want to get a mac book but I will if it'll save me from killing my current machine.
 
£112 is an awful lot of money. Unless they PWN at keepig things safe. I'll only be going on trains/cars from Uni and back - I'm not planning on going mountain biking with it as shown in the pictures >_>
 
Yeah, £112 is a lot, but cheaper than the loss you'll take on the iMac if you choose to sell it. That ones an American import, so you may find the cheaper American site will ship it to the UK for less, or even an alternative supplier if you Google it.

It is funny about the mountain bike isn't it? I'm surprised they didn't show someone snorkelling with it to show how waterproof it it :D
 
I regularly moved my entire PC setup to-and-from Uni, monitor, box, subwoofer, speakers, printer, scanner - you name it - and I am glad to report that it's all still here with me now in perfect working order.

If that mess of cables and boxes can survive then a carefully handled iMac will be fine, if not dream-like!
 
Just under £90 if I order from the American site. How reliable are these bags? They seem to be the only kind on the market (after a quick google anyway)...

Yeah, looking they do seem to be the only option on offer. However, £90 is nothing when you think I payed £60 for my PowerBook bag. Hold off until this afternoon. Once the Americans start posting there's guaranteed to be someone on the site who has one of these.
 
I'm not actually looking to buy straight away - I can hold off for a while - I don't need it till mid-September.


But thanks for the advice anyway - i love my iMac and I really don't want to get rid of it for a MacBook (even though they are very, very nice).
 
The iLugger is a great bag and a very easy setup using a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I would recommend ordering from the UK site as you will get charged import tax on the bag from the U.S.
 
no way am i takeing all my computer kit back and forth when i go home,

i'm takeing the following to uni:

G4 cube, PC, macbook, xbox 360, maybe annother smaller pc, depends oh and a 2405FPW.

i'd just buy a cheap laptop and use that when your home.

I dont know what your needs are but that seems like a little bit of an overkill doesnt it?

What could you possibly use all that for..and where are you going to fit it in a dorm??(assuming you're living at school)
 
Edinburgh dorm room, though i'll be getting my own place asap.

that can all fit on one desk, the only big things are the pc and 2405FPW.

i'll also be takeing all my books, which fill a door sized set of book shelves.

oh and i need my cube as my large HD mac desktop, my pc for pc stuff and games, my 360 for 360ying, and i definatly need my macbook.

and the screen has not been bought yet but it will be, i like my screen space.

Sell it and ge a Mac book pro or a Macbook, problem solve.:D
 
Wouldn't be a problem at all. I have moved my office computer back and forth a few times without any issues. If you want, I am sure you could easily build some sort of carrying case or search for something online, I know that I have seen a few advertised. You could also have someone who is crafty make a sleeve for it, just make sure that the fabric inside is soft. The only annoying thing to carry is the mouse and keyboard, luckily I have a spare set at home :)

and to think i made do with a G3 imac... however did I survive? :rolleyes:
 
You'll be fine with the iMac. I used to have a Windows PC tower with a monitor, speakers, subwoofer, and other things in my room. Taking that sucker home over Winter break was HELL. I hated having to put it together and take it apart. So many wires. Luckily the iMac is simple and not heavy. It should give you an easy time.

I think once or twice every two months or so is fine. You could get a refurb Macbook for $1000 or cheaper if you're concerned though, or find a used Powerbook on eBay or something.

I bought one of the iLugger bags, and have been carrying my 20" iMac back and forth from my home at college to my "real" home every weekend for the last six or so months. Its still in great condition. I wouldn't worry about it.
