.....for my Mac Pro, at least give me something to buy to replace it with!
Curious what do you do that makes it slower?Your <<something>> is 2013 nmp.
In my situation>>
i just replace my 12 core x5670 with quad core 3.7 GHz nmp just a month ago.
It may made me slower in some task such as compiling apps.
but for my everyday overall task (web developing, photoshop), it faster!!
First, i think the 7 years old is so old machine.Curious what do you do that makes it slower?
Okay I see what you saying. If overall is more beneficial than non beneficial then all is well.First, i think the 7 years old is so old machine.
Second, in my workflow, as i finished my computer engineer phd thesis (on cloud gaming), it left only web dev, photoshopped for my web pro and some iOS app dev. I got more benefits of having better single core performance than multi-core performance.
So i have choose quad 3.7 (to be upgrade to 3.3 GHz 8 core) over 12 core 2.93 GHz.
Filesystem and Shader Model 5.0 for GPUs in 4.1 and 3.1. Or rather lack of thereof support on them.Time to start taking a look at moving away from the Macintosh. There's no reason a 3,1 and 4,1 (especially a 4,1 since it's so close to a 5,1) Mac Pro cannot be supported in 10.12
Can you elaborate? What about the 3,1 and 4,1 is incompatible with the filesystem? What about the 4,1 (since it's essentially a 5,1) prevents it from using the same GPUs which is supported in a 5,1 for Shader Model 5.0?They still can give you. The OS is not officially out, yet. It will launch in the fall, so they have quite some time for updating the hardware for it.

I do get that this is a 7 year old machine, but Windows 10 works on similar age hardware. In fact it installs itself whether you want it or not. But I don't want to go back to Windows.
Apple and Microsoft have very different business models. Making Windows run on as much hardware as possible is beneficial to Microsoft. The opposite is true for Apple.
I'm not opposed to buying new hardware, in fact I'd quite like a brand new Mac. They just don't make the Mac I want. Now I don't expect Apple to drop everything they are working on and make a special Mac just for me. Either they will come out with something I like soon, or I will learn to adjust what I want. The world will continue to turn, it's a little bit frustrating though.
Windows is not the problem people here make it out to be. The problems and information gathering a exaggerated. From my limited exposure to Windows 10, it doesn't seem too difficult to get along with
Sort of like Apple and El Capitain? I have this annoying message box on my Mavericks system sitting on my desktop. I can't find a way to get rid of it. It's super annoying given it is smack dab over the primary hard disk icon (and over anything else for that matter).I get that. Microsoft are hell bent on upgrading as many people to Windows 10 as possible, so that they can harvest your information and sell more advertising.

I do not know. It is gimmick in my opinion from Apple to drop support for 4.1. They may have very good reason for it, I do not know. I think it is because of new filesystem, and because lack of...

Then there's iOS upgrades. No way to block them. Always have a little "1" on the settings icon until you upgrade. OK...just put that on a different screen. Nope...I continue to receive an upgrade dialog right in the middle of my using the phone. I select "Remind me later" or some such thing and what happens? It asks for my passcode, I enter it, then it asks me to agree to the license terms. What about "Remind me later" does it not understand?
I thought Microsoft was really annoying with the Windows 10 push. But Apple is right there with them.
I don't know...do they? More importantly why do you ask?Apple sells info harvested from us through macOS?

I disagree with the effort Microsoft is using to push Windows 10 but it does require a user to accept the license agreement so users do have the opportunity to reject it. But it is annoying. As for the upgrade failing it's interesting only Mac users, and the people they know, who seems to have problems with it. Everyone I know hasn't had a single problem with it.Well when you put it like that....maybe not so different. But as far as I know Apple haven't got to the point of scheduling an update without your explicit consent. Just this morning a friend told me that her laptop decided to "upgrade itself to Windows 10" yesterday, and now it won't boot. (I assume she told me this hoping for me to volunteer to fix it. I bet Microsoft didn't check she had a backup before kindly scheduling the upgrade for her.)
I did? Where? As far as I know, they don't. I asked because you claimed they do.
