My brother works at Best Buy, so I was asking him what kind of a discount I can get on a new iMac. He didn't know I was in the market for one (I think he's in denial actually - he loves his Windows...). Turns out last week a 17" iMac kept getting returned because the OSX disc was scratched. A coworker bought the thing for $800CDN. Had my brother thought about it, I could've had it! Normally, the basic configuration is around $1500 w/ GST.

Question though, if I did buy it on the cheap w/ a scratched disc, would Apple supply me with a new disc? Cause I'd be all over an $800 iMac even though I don't have the cash right now. Wow. He said he'll keep an eye out for me, so hopefully something comes up again in the future.

Not sure whether Apple would charge you for the replacement, but even if they did it'd be a very cheap machine all-up. Having said that, I would've thought Best Buy would've been able to get a replacement disc fairly easily.

The guy just talked to his store manager, who OK'd selling it to him for 800 bones.

Six months ago, I could've gotten a G4 Power Mac for $200CDN, but I had to pass it up because I needed the money for my vacation. One of these days I'll get a cheap Mac, damnit!

Even though I'm totally preparing to shell out $2000 on everything I need, I'm all over saving as much as I can. I'm almost tempted to enrol in a class at my old University, buying my iMac, then dropping the class and getting my money back the second I get it.
