Damn you macrumours! I was just gonna buy a 17', but now you've all made me want the whole shebang! From there, it was all downhill and I convinced myself that getting it would be better in the long run.

Oh well. I'll have $2k by the end of the Mid-Semester break at least.

Hence I'm well overdue for an upgrade.

i ordered 2 for the office to replace a G4 Powermac and a G5 iMac 20"....

should look niiice

i went for the 2.16...couldnt justify the extra cost for so little extra pace, and you wont notice that difference..

2gb ram...couldnt justify the extra 1gb costs.

Yeah...the whole idea of buying applecare is new to me. Apple used to give 3 year education warranties back in the day.

I guess they want that as a premium now.

I wish I could have Macs for the office I work at though. They're running dells in there, and I'm the only fellow in there who knows how to work windows through it's paces. Hence I'm fixing it instead of working stock. <_<;

I bet I can convince them to get minis the next time they need a new set of computers though.

Seriously though, this new Mac will quite literally blow my socks off. Heck, my screen size is doubling, I don't even want to know how much faster my processor will be...it'll have Front Row, a HD 6 times the size of my current...Boot Camping, Tiger (Instead of Panther), New Speakers! (Tinny laptop speakers for the lose!).

Damn, I'm excited! Gotta keep working and saving!

I ordered mine a few days ago, should be here about the 3rd Oct if it works out... I was going to buy the 20" iMac Core Duo, but then decided to wait for the Core 2 Duo update - and now I can't think of buying anything but the 24" model, damn Apple

I quite fancy the 24" as well, its a beast and its main selling point for me is its screen and connectivity. I was going to get an external monitor for my iBook, a particular 19" Samsung monitor that can rotate from portrait to landscape and can automatically configure the desktop once rotated.

I still might now that I'm reminiscing about it!

But anyway, I wouldn't have that problem with a 24" iMac, its size would be enough, plus i have the odd FW800 device so I needn't need a pro machine anymore.

When the 24" came out, it surprised me but I thought was kind of cool. I figured it wouldn't be a great seller but probably had its niche. The kind of thing everyone admires but few actually buy, and I certainly wasn't considering one myself.

A week later, I was 90% sure I was getting one, and now it's 99% And it seems to be getting a VERY favorable response from Mac shoppers. You can't judge from forums, but I'm starting to think this might be quite a good seller. I met people in the Apple Store who had never owned a Mac, but the 24" interested them enough to think it was time to finally buy one.

We just didn't know we needed this machine until it appeared

So instead of a Mac Pro + display, I will get an iMac (now) + MacBook Pro (next year). Same cost, less speed, but I'll have TWO new Macs! And a decent 3D board, large screen, and Front Row remote (lacking on the Pro) for use with EyeTV.

(Re AppleCare - I prefer to wait until month 11 of my standard year warranty and THEN buy AppleCare, or not. You still only get 3 years total, and you give up some phone support which I never use anyway, but at least you can delay some expense.)

Just gonna say: go look at one before you buy it. Look at it next to a 20" before you decide. I honestly don't think I'd want one on my desk... and I am a complete gadget freak. I'm sure that some/most people will love it, but I was tempted by it until I actually saw it.

There's a reason that I'm getting the Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse, you know. I liked sitting in bed with my laptop watching movies late at night. Now I can do the same..except the iMac'll just have to sit on the other side of the room. ^_^

at your office.

Especially when you have it set up to network with a Windows server.

It will just blow their minds.

Just remember that any work you do under BootCamp MUST be backed up.

Apple warns very clearly that Boot Camp is a beta program and that it should not
be used for critical commercial data at this time.

IF..... your IT admin doesn't have the AOL server ports blocked, you can demo iChat A/V. You'll be able to impress the others that you can live video conference right from your desk.

iMacs DO belong in the workplace.
