I just bought a 15", 2GHZ MBP last wednesday and now they have the upgraded, price-dropped ones. I hear that since i just purchased mine, I can either trade it in for the upgraded one of the same price or get some money back. Has anyone tried to do this? I'm gonna try tomorrow anyways.

If it's open your out of luck. You got a mac, a new mac at that. Be happy with it :) the price drop was small, nothing major.

I bought a 1.83 gHz from MacConnection on Saturday. It arrived today. Between the 2 times, the price dropped $100. I called them yesterday and asked for a credit. They initially refused, saying they don't offer price protection. I told them I would refuse the shipment otherwise. The CS Rep talked to her supervisor and they decided to issue me a $100 credit.

Call the retailer and check with your credit card company. Either may offer price protection.

If its unopened they will trade if you'd like (doubt they have the new configs in yet though.) If its opened they will refund you whatever the difference is calculated to be...probably 200-300 dollars. The new 2Ghz model lacks some of what you have namely 256meg video + 1GB of ram so you won't get back the full 500.

Ok, I just purchased a 1.83ghz stock macbook pro from the apple store on monday. Well tuesday brought the price drop. Mine is opened and I really don't want to exchange it for the 2.0ghz model, but if I am entitled to some money then I would like to get that. Any thoughts on what I can do or what have others done in the same situation as me?

Well, Apple doesn´t know you have opened it, so you could give them a call and pretend it´s still unopened and try to get some credit. It isn´t very honest to do so, but you are dealing with a corporation and they are almost never honest to their customers, e.g. has Apple admitted to the MBP excessive heat because of their poor manufacturing methods?

Ok let's get this straight. IF you bought your Macbook Pro WITHIN 14 days of the new ones coming out YOU CAN get a $100 CREDIT from the Apple Store. I did it, and so have many others. Just call them up, if you bought it online, otherwise just take your receipt to the store and have them credit you.

Yep, the last post is right. I just went down to the apple store on got a 108 refund. Not much, but still worth it for me.

i purchased mine a week and a half ago and was refunded the difference of the current price and what i paid, which turned out to be $200.
