Dare I open the box?

So, I was at the Apple Store today and bought the iMac i7. Yay! But when they brought the box out it looked a little off. A little dirt, some minor dings, and two seal stickers not just one (the clear seal on the top of the box). In retail I generally try to avoid this because it gives the appearance that it had been returned and resealed.

On my way home I started to think that I should have just ordered from the online Apple Store. Chances are there would be more turnover in their stock and less likely to be any funny business (i'm not saying this is a case of that).

Before I make a commitment here by opening the box and thus a 10% restock fee if it doesn't go well I'd like to ask some questions:

• Would the look of the box concern any of you?
• Did you order online or buy at the Apple Store?
• Did your iMac come double sealed?

A - Open it, its perfect and you enjoy it.
B - Open it, its broken and they replace it - for free.
C - Leave closed, return and get money back.
D - Let sit for 1 year - until its base warraty is over.

BTW: Never judge a book by its cover....

Don't think they sell the i7 in stores since isn't standard you have to order it in the Apple Online store they either have to place an order for you online or you have to order it online if you want the i7 option.

I think the i7 iMacs are now standard store stock, along with the top end anti-glare hi-res 15" and 17" MBPs, and the ultimate spec level 2010 MBAs. In any Apple store I've visited, the price and spec lists by the iMacs show the i7 as standard stock, likewise for the MBPs and MBAs. Smaller stores in a multi-store area might not have the full range.

I bought my i7 in a retail Apple store. Just walked in and asked for one. This was two months ago. No special order, advance request, nothing.

I bought an i7 at the apple store 3 weeks ago and was also concerned when I got home and noticed two seals, the lower one cut.

I was unhappy until I remembered that iLife was just updated to '11, and sure enough there was a drop-in disc in the box. You probably have a drop in iLife '11 disc too.

Also, the packaging (it can't be that green) is probably impossible to rearrange like new--imagine 27" of cellophane tape material stuck to the front of imac. When unwrapped, that glass is pristine and most definitely never been unwrapped before...

Bust it open. Those boxes are easy to get dirty and also dent pretty easily. No big deal.

As already stated...the main reason the boxes have more than one seal right now is because the Apple store is opening them to put iLife 11 in the boxes. My new 27" last week had only the factory seal. And yes, I had to go back to the store for my copy of iLife 11. So you should not have that hassle if it is double taped.

Hi everyone. I wanted to say thank you to everyone that replied to this thread. After reading your replies I opened the box and found the computer packaged as it should be. Sure enough, I found the drop-in iLife '11 DVD inside which is most likely the reason for the resealing.
