Can you make your icons dark. But not tint the wallpaper and keep it in light mode?

On my iPad auto mode darkens app icons by doesn’t tint the wallpaper. If I manually select dark mode from the Home screen edit options it tints the wallpaper?

Yes, they are separate settings.

You need to tap the sun icon to toggle the wallpaper tint off/on.

I noticed this as well. Apple has removed the automatic dimming of the wallpaper when dark mode comes on at night.

It’s frustrating as hell but I’m hoping it’s a bug.

I created a work around in shortcuts to automate it.

I first created a focus mode I called “night mode” I then made a wallpaper set for that mode, I made it pretty much identical to my normal mode (no focus mode set) I just darkened the icons and wallpaper. But you could make it darker.

I then setup an automation to enable night mode focus 30 min after sunset and turn it off 30 min after sunrise.

Note: you don’t have automate light/dark mode as that bit already exists in settings.
