So I was cleaning my desk today and I was looking at my macbook and noticed dark almost stain looking marks on the wrist rests. I've only had my macbook since December!!! Am I just seeing things? Because I can only slightly see them when i look really close and from the side with my face level to the notebook...

If this is what I am fearing- what should I clean it with?

Mr Clean Magic Eraser?

There are many threads related to staining on macbooks. Do a quick search and you will see. Give a call to applecare and they most likely will replace the top portion of your macbook. There was a staining problem with many of the newer released macbooks. Maybe you have one of them.

Many others with the same problem stated that the Mr. Clean magic eraser did not solve this problem.
The macbook plastic was very porous and absorbed the staining from sweat, dirt, etc. on your hands/wrists.

It's not an early release. It's a c2d 2.0Ghz that was manufactured in November.

I know it isn't an early release because I made sure I wouldn't buy a macbook until they released a second revision that fixed staining issues.

Will an Apple Store fix my problem in store, without having to ship it out?

Replacing the top case definitely requires that it be shipped out.

I read about the strains on the palm wrists, went ahead and got BSE's full body skin for the Macbook two weeks before I even placed an order for the MB. The skin definitely helps in preventing the stains and have noticed slight build up of oil.

I'd recommend buying the invisible skin, they even have it for just the trackpad, palm rests if you don't want to purchase the full body skin.

BestSkinsEver : Only $9, you can't go wrong.

So is it black or white? Because I only see a black macbook on that page.

It is clear, invisible skin. Can go on either the Blackbook or Whitebook. BSE probably used the Blackbook as an example because it was easier to see the invisible skin.

Is it easy to remove if I don't like it- is it going to leave any adhesive behind?

I was dead certain only Core Duo MacBooks produced between week 19 and 27 had the rougher and more absorbing plastic.

My week 19 MacBook has discoloration. I'm gonna get mine replaced when Leopard comes out:D

Until then a simple pencil eraser is all that helps.

I actually had to remove it off my BlackBerry Pearl and it did not leave an adhesive behind. Took a bit of force to take it off but what was left was a phone that looked as good as new.

You won't regret it. It is exactly the same product as ShieldZone except 50% cheaper. Great customer service too. It was a pain to apply the skin to the Macbook though. I thought I had gotten rid of all the bubbles but when it dried there was still bubbles in random areas. I don't mind though, as long as it does its job to prevent scratches on the MB :)

Hi,Buddy,I think you can try a palmrest protector which I had used very well.

My September 2006 CD MacBook has some slight staining. Nothing really gets it out - like others have said, it's a characteristic of the plastic.

Can you post a picture. It's absolutely normal for the palm rest areas to get dirty and darker. You can clean them with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

People often confuse dirty palm rests with the staining issue of the early MacBooks. The early MacBooks had a type of plastic palm rests that chemically stained from oils on the skin. ALL white MacBooks/iBooks get dirty palm rests, which are really hard to clean. When the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser came out, it provided a method to easily clean the palm rests. DO NOT use the eraser on your trackpad (the button is ok), screen, shiny top of MacBook, etc.

I'm finding that the corners of the keys on my C2D MacBook are becoming very dirty (darker than the colour of the lettering) but have yet to try anything except water to remove it. Any suggestions?

I"ve always used rubbing alcohol to clean keyboards. We had computers in the middle of farm fields - i could get them looking new (and where i'd touch them - YUCK!!!)
