Hey, I'm addicted to dark!

I'm now trying to find dark themed apps to replace some of the lighter ones I use to use on a regular basis... things like news readers, mail client, twitter client, etc.

In addition, the new bright blue folder icons are horrible in dark mode... what are people using for replacements?

Here are a few that are dark or offer transparent or dark themes that I've come across...

System Monitoring
- iStat Menus 5: http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
- Control Center: http://www.cindori.org/software/controlcenter/
- LittleSnitch Network Monitor: http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html
(I prefer iStat over Control Center for it's minimalism)

Terminal
- Of course use the built in "Pro" Theme

News Reader
- NewsBar: http://www.newsbar-app.com
(Loving this minimal transparent app)

Twitter (Haven't tried any of these...)
- Tweetdeck: https://about.twitter.com/products/tweetdeck
- Itsy: http://www.mowglii.com/itsy/themes/

Email Client
(Still looking for something to replace Sparrow)

Icons
- Dynamic Icons by Cullen Card: http://www.ccard3.com/mac-icons.html
(Look good but haven't tried yet... EDIT: don't look good on a white background)
- Aquave Dark by vargas21: http://vargas21.deviantart.com/art/Aquave-Dark-System-197862476
(Using these for now... see post #4)

What am I missing? What other apps are you using? Are there any other great dark themed apps in categories I haven't listed here?

Can you apply the dark blank folder to every new folder, by default?

Yeah... if you use the LiteIcon app, you can apply the new style to the default folder icon and all existing and future generic folders will have that look.

Yosemite seemed a bit stubborn in taking changes to icons in my case. Let me know how you fare.

If you're having the same trouble I had getting the new icons to show up, try these terminal commands to force the icon cache to refresh and logout to get the changes to show up in Yosemite...

Code:
sudo find /private/var/folders/ -name com.apple.dock.iconcache -exec rm {} \;
sudo mv /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store com.apple.ic

And some of the system folders required manually copy and pasting the new icon into the upper right corner of the "Get Info" window for said icons (followed by the above terminal commands and a logout).

Some dark folders, for some dark lovers :D

Thanks... I saw those, but the set is a bit incomplete... No Utilities folder, no Library folder, to name a couple. But they look great.

Hi,

I just downloaded the dark theme icons and used Litecon to change the icons. No It didn't work for me - no big deal. However in the meantime I also changed (using litecon) the "finder" icon and the "trash" icon on the dock and unfortunately I can not get the original back. I have tried reverting to original, clearing cache, logging out, uninstalling litecon... but nothing has worked. How can I get the Yosemite dock icons back?

Thanks

I would try to use LiteIcon's restore option first... under the Tools menu.

The system icons are stored in a file...
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
- If you want to see what's in there... right click and select "Show Package Contents" and then navigate to Contents>Resources

If you don't have a backup of this file, I think you can get a factory version by creating a new user account on your system, it should create a user account with the default icon set. You can then just copy the CoreTypes.bundle file over to your main account and replace the one you've changed... or even just the icon file you want to revert.
