We spend $20 on a 2 hour movie and think nothing of it. I think $20 for dozens of hours of entertainment (fear) is well worth it. I've already put a dozen hours into it and about as many heroes in the ground.looks like an ipad game. I think 20 is a bit much for this game.
Yup, it looks as thbough it willbe a bit of fun, but I also will be waiting for a final release also, not going to get involved in anymore early release, pre release games.
I tend to say away from them because I don't want a buggy, half finished game ruining my fun. The earliest I'm willing to jump in on something is a late beta.
I've put nearly 30 hours into this since it came out. There are no bugs that I know of, and I've experienced a total of 3 crashes to desktop. Since the game autosaves constantly, this was no issue.
HIGHLY recommended for an early access game.
It's still not completely finished, though. They're still adding classes, and I don't think they've allowed access to the eponymous Darkest Dungeon yet.
One of the major reasons why I avoid these betas is because I'm afraid I'll get burnt out before the game is actually done. If I were to get it now, I'd probably do what you do, and play it nonstop. Then, when it's finally out, everything's finished, tweaked, and ready to roll, I'll be all like..."eh, I'll get around to it again one day". I think it's better to wait.
I'm doing the same thing with Darkwood, too. And I really, really want to play that game.
There's also self discipline...

That's the problem.
Roguelikes are more a vague checklist than they are a specific genre. Basically it's "everything is randomized, and you die a lot", which can cover everything from action games to oldschool RPGs.
I wouldn't dismiss it just because of that. Unless, of course, you hate randomized everything and dying a lot.
The thing rogue-like implies to me is you die and it is game over. You must begin again in hopes of getting further next time. That is was rogue was so I expect a rogue-like more than anything else to mimic this gameplay and that is what for me is the suckage. That said, I appreciate that some enjoy that. It's just not my cup of tea.
2 crusaders, 1 vestal, 1 bounty hunter = I'm unstoppable.
Long Veteran dungeons without using a single camp: the crusaders can reduce fear while the bounty hunter stun locks the last enemy, all the while the vestal is healing everyone... very fun game.
Very nice... just got a couple to level 5. How do you keep the fear in check? My level 5 party consists of 1 hellion, 1 crusader, 1 highwayman and 1 vestal. Usually works out quite well. I have a variety of level 4 people though with every class to mix and match as I like.
