Well, after beeing more and more satiesfied with my alu iMac 24", it started last night to act up funny. It was hard to boot. 1 time it came up with a folder with a question mark on instead of the normal apple logo. I reset, booted up, and it worked.

I used it, gamed, mailed and such. Shutdown, and this morning i tried to turn it on, it started to freak out, turned on, off, on, off, on, off by it self, very fast, didnt sound very well.

I took the power, and now its completely dead.

When i turn it on, i can hear the DVD drive, then stops. I can hear some VERY faint fan noise, but nothing else happens. Black screen, no HD spin, no nothing. Sometimes the apple sounds come up after 5 mins :-S Weird weird.

I called the support. They told me to take the power completely for 10 mins, that should help (?) well, im trying, and the call them back if it aint helping.

Thing is, IF it needs repair, i would just hate to get it back in bad shape. Dont really trust repairshops handling the stuff like myself, but we will see. i got 32 months of full insurance, so its np.

Time to bring back the old trusty PC

Anyone else experienced something like this btw?

Man, sorry to hear about that. Did you have Time Machine running so when you get your iMac back you can restore?

Sounds like you may have a fried logic board. I am unsure what insurance you are referring to when you say you have "32 months" but if the machine is 3 months old you are still well within the one year included warranty from Apple.

If I were you I would call them and schedule a pickup. Even if it needs a new logic board it's no big deal for them and you are fully covered. Apple even pays the shipping to and from of course. :)

Good luck.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear about the crash. I had a iMac go out at work that had Apple Protection Plan & it was the logic board that went. A tech came right into work & fixed it onsite.

Does APP offer the same for residential?

Dude, sucks bad. Well if the dvd drive works and the display works, then there could be a solution, but sounds like your logic board is fried.

I thought it might be the PSU or something, but logic board sounds possible to.

Well, it was picked up the day after (last friday) so no idea how long it will take to repair. (no costs for anything)

I hope the HD is intact and doesnt need a reformat, but we will see.

Ill get back with an update when i hear from the repair fellas.

Sounds like what happened to my iMac except mine had the problem on the first day. It isn't likely to get better so I suggest calling Apple and get the process started.

late update:

The repair guys had my iMac for 20 days :-( But, they took my HD and switched it to a brand new iMac, so got a new machine. Works super so far :)

No idea what went wrong with the other one.
