Hi,

I just received my eMac a couple of days ago and the dashboard worked fine. Now when I access it, the background is pitch black and I can barely see the widgets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Evangeline

I rebooted about ten thousand times. I went into preferences and slid the brightness bar all the way to the right. I also changed my desktop to the lightest color available.

I have an eMAC combo drive with:

17-inch flat CRT display
1.42GHz PowerPC G4
256MB DDR333 SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA drive
Combo drive
ATI Radeon 9600
64MB video memory
56k internal modem

Thanks for the fast replies.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the information.

I just repaired permissions and rebooted but the background of the dashboard is still dark. As a matter of fact, everything is getting darker.

Apple said that this is a hardware problem and to either get it serviced or send it back. I just received this computer last Thursday. I am going to go out to the garage and get a sledgehammer and bash this things to bits.

I'm sorry to hear that, it happens sometimes, at least you are still under warranty.
I'd get it replaced personally, depending on how long it should take.

Oh yeah, don't take a sledgehammer to it, that will void your warranty.

I don't get how this would be a hardware problem if it only happens with Dashboard. I'd re-install OS X.

Well that made me laugh. Thanks.

It's a hardware issue because the screen gets darker before the OS is loaded.
