Quick question - I may be going to Cologne Germany this weekend and wondering what I may be facing in terms of Data Charges - I know it's unlimited Data, but what about when I travel.

Thanks,

Jeff

I am going to Canada this month, and was wondering the same thing... Is there a cost for data when you are out of the country?

I think me and you should be careful taking our iPhones out in public. Remember, they're not there yet!

I'm going to Montreal. Same question AND what about nationwide minutes? I assume they don't work, so how much are roaming minutes/charges?

First, make sure you call AT&T and have them turn on international roaming for you. There's no charge for it, but the default is that it's off unless you ask for it. (You may be able to do this via the AT&T website, as well).

I've never done international roaming with an AT&T phone, but I do know that it was pretty expensive with my T-Mobile phone -- on the order of $.99/minute in France. (Of course, that included any long distance charges if the call was back to the U.S.)

I'm curious if the AT&T rates are any different, and even more curious about how the data works.

I know T-Mobile always charged a pretty-penny for DATE when I'm in the UK with a US BlackBerry. My bill was usually 70 bucks, and with a week in the UK checking emails only, it was around 250 bucks. Watch out. Find out the facts from your provider first.

From what i've heard from CSRs at ATT, it's $.02/kb for data

And also, you have to explicitly request the feature to be added, because usually it is only available after being a customer for at least a month

Also, if you're on prepaid, roaming (AKA overseas use) is a no-go......from what I've heard
