Data plan work with other smartphones?

Thinking about getting my gf a treo or something like that. I don't think she wants an iphone...

The apple plan is really cheap compared to the $45 for the blackberry. I'm sure Apple MADE AT&T drop it for them. I'm sure AT&T will keep it the same for anything but an iPhone

Get two ipones (reamed) for pretty good $ plan wise

..OR..

Get iphone (reamed) and treo (not reamed) and family plan with iphone data and non-iphone data (reamed).

The Smartphone Connect plan is $19.99 and is sold on the Blackjack, though it works fine on non-Blackberry PDA's.

I have the Blackberry Enterprise plan, and it works in my Treo 750. My old Smartphone Connect plan worked in my KRZR, Blackjack, and Treo 650.

They're all pretty much interchangeable. It largely depends on what phone you buy, as to whether or not they try to sell you Smartphone Connect vs. PDA Connect ($39.99).

That's kind of like saying a Scion xA is really cheap compared to a minivan.

The Apple pricing is $0.01 higher than what anybody would pay for a Blackjack with the same minutes / data.

The Blackberry plans include access to RIM's network for BIS or BES, which allows for encrypted messaging and push mail. It's obscenely priced, but it does do more than the standard Smartphone Connect plan.

I don't get it. Why would anyone want a phone other than the iPhone... Simply crazyiness..

Now that it's official that the iPhone has exchange support, blackberry's could have some serious competition!!

I don't think it's "official" per se. Being able to pull IMAP is vastly different than full Exchange support.

And RIM has more than enough customers using Lotus Notes, and Groupwise (where Blackberry will continue to be the only platform with full OTA support) to prevent them from losing any sleep over the iPhone.

The not-so-secret fact about Exchange is that virtually any Windows Mobile device can provide the same Blackberry-like experience without investing in a BES or additional user CALs. I'd wager RIM is more afraid of Exchange 2007.
