Data Recovery?

Hey everyone...
I'm trying to recover some files that were deleted on an external drive from my Mac. The trash has been emptied, but I am hopeful the files haven't been wiped yet. Is there any kind of terminal magic I could do, or any recommended data recovery programs?

PS Running Catalina, Time Machine not enabled for that drive.

Never used it but many people like Disk Warrior. It does not work on APFS drives, only HFS+.

Give "Disk Drill" a try. I've found it to work well provided you did not accidentally overwrite anything on that external drive.
