This seems like it should be an easy operation. All I want to do is get the contacts from my iPhone to my address book on my computer. I've more or less given up on mobileme, so I'm just gonna have to settle for the old fashion way. Unfortunately, this has not gone well either. Every time I try to sync my contacts, it replaces all the contacts from my computer on my iphone which is zero contacts. I do not have the box checked under advanced to replace information on the iphone. I don't receive any prompt asking me to replace data or merge data. Is there really no way of putting contacts from the iphone onto address book? This seems pretty ridiculous to me. Any help appreciated?

Syst Prefs / MobileMe / Sync / Advanced / choose computer / choose "Reset Sync Data" / choose "Replace Contacts on Computer". This will replace your contacts on your mac with contacts on MobileMe

Thanks for the response, but I am actually in the position that I am in because I could not sync with mobile me. I get the inconsistent data error and have tried that fix you suggested a couple of times. So as of right now, I have an updated contact list on the phone and on mobileme, but have no way of getting those contacts onto my computer. If I try to sync them from mobile me, I get the inconsistent data error and if I try to sync my phone directly to my address book, it erases everything on my phone. I'm not sure where to go from here.

First I would try this - There is a "reset sync data feature" in iSync. This is an app in your applications folder. Launch iSync / go to iSync Prefs / Make sure it is set to sync with MobileMe / then click on Reset Sync History. Quit iSync and reboot your Mac. After reboot, sink with MobileMe then look to see if your contacts are in addressbook.

If that doesn't work try - "Unregistering you Mac" via the same path as before in MobileMe pref's. Restart your Mac, then re-register your Mac. Sync and see if contacts are in your addressbook.

I think either one of these will work.

Unfortunately, neither of those fixes worked. I had actually tried the second one a few times before. What I am really looking for is a way to just sync my phone and my address book without using mobileme at this point. I am pretty sure other people have been able to do this, but whenever I try to sync through itunes, the data on my phones gets replaced instead of the data merging. I dont get a dialogue box asking me if I want to merge either. It seems ridiculous to me that I am unable to do this yet it is incredibly easy with a palm device.

Ok, the last thing I can think of... I just went to MM / address book (cloud) / Pref's. There is an option to import / export vCards. Maybe you could export all of your vCards from the cloud to your desktop then import them to your Mac local address book?
