Hi,

I'm on a pay monthly iPhone contract with 02 in the UK.

If I travel abroad, and turn data roaming off, I presume I wont get hit with any data charges. I'm just wondering what wont work if I turn data roaming off - what wont work?

I use between 50MB and 60MB a month usually (excluding WiFi), but I will cut right back when I'm on holiday.

Obviously I cant browse the web or check emails, but will GPS work?

So if I do want to use data I'll turn data roaming on, and use data from my 10MB allocation from the £20 bolt on. (Don't really want to pay £6 per 1MB on the standard tariff)

Thanks for any views.

Technically, GPS will work, but you won't be able to use any app which needs the internet to display data - which includes Google Maps. So you will be able to use GPS with software that has already downloaded data (like a navigation package, or Distant Suns), but you won't be able to use the Maps while you're abroad.

I've downloaded 'Offmaps' so that will work if I dont have data. Not sure if it works with GPS though. Hmm, just tried - appears to work.
