Has anyone experienced issues with data transfer with optical drive caddies?
I recently installed an ATA to SATA optical bay caddy in my early 2008 8,1 24" iMac so I could use a 2nd 2.5" drive. I ran DriveDx on the drive and found that it was showing '5074 data transfer errors via interface cable (health indicator #199)'. The DriveDx error description stated that 'Increase of raw value could indicate problem with the power supply or data cable. Check power and data cables.'
I never particularly noticed any issues with the Optical Drive cable but then the optical drive was pretty worn out/caked in dust anyway so I can't say for definite. Without trying another caddy or buying a used optical drive cable I can't rule any of the 3 causes out, and there's no guarantee that a used cable won't have minor issues. I just wondered if it was a common fault with these units. Thanks in advance!
