I have had serious problems with a digital imaging project archiving seperate folders of TIFF images and "raw galleries" to DVD using MAC - G4 superdrives. I am based in the UK and we seem to be 3-4 months behind with what is happening in the US. Apple's support told me last April that they did not support data writing and that I would need to obtain a copy of Toast Titanium. For economies of scale each folder of "raw images" contained 4.2gb of data and the vital first .dsc file (only 4k), needed to open the gallery was being corrupted. The same applied to a folder full of TIFFS - the first TIFF was interfered with and faulty!
This problem vanished when we obtained a copy of 10.1.5 in the middle of August. Apple are now trying to say I was given incorrect information by their support team and that I could back up mixed data and video using their software / operating system. I am not sure this is correct and in any case my folder was full of data only. In addition the MACs were scrambling data on my external Lacie drives that had been formatted for both PC and MAC use (destroying complete partitions to be exact!).
These serious problems have affected my business cashflow to the tune of a large six-figure sum for a period of around six months. I am seeking some form of redress as it is totally unfair that a sole trader can be driven to the brink of financial ruin by big corporations marketing and selling equipment that is incapable of carrying out tasks they claim are routine.
Can anybody support these claims - information is urgently required. Many thanks
