I don't want the computer to "talk" to me, so I turn off "notifications" between 00:00 and 23:59 (that's 11:59 PM in imperial time keeping).

I do however want to keep track of the current date and time, but to my astonishment time is dimmed in the menubar whenever i disable notifications.

Is this a new "fetature"? I can't recall it ever being so before.

i have 'do not disturb' enabled, from 12:01 AM to 12:00 AM... and date & time is not dimmed. try that (ie 00:01 to 24:00). just curious if that fixes it for you.

fwiw, if i am on my mac at midnite, sometimes a bunch of update messages appear (sometimes); a small price to pay for not being bothered by endless pop ups...

I've heard of that before, but it doesn't dim the date and time on my machine (Big Sur 11.2.3).

What about this (latest BigSur)?

Also, you can simply go to System Preferences > Notifications and turn off notifications for all the apps that are there.
