I am not tech savy at all. My 12 year old daughter has twice now came home from her fathers house upset because his girlfriend knows her text message conversations. This time the GF showed my daughter what looked like a pic of the text message. Both times the GF also knew conversations that weren't texted & she wasn't on the telephone either. (When my daughter was at my house). I understand I can reset the phone, but how can I tell if she really did something to the phone? The GF works at a small cellphone company. Also the cellphone is in my present husbands contract. I feel that the possible spying is aimed at me, not necessarily my daughter.
Any thoughts?

My only thought would be that the GF is using her position and resources at the small cellphone company to learn about these things.

In my book that would be stalking, which is a crime.

unless its jailbroken, it cannot be "hacked".

what eyoungren said, the only possibility aside from directly checking your daughter's phone would be to spy her through the company she works for.

and yes, its illegal. i would advise you to collect as much proof as you can before confronting her.

The GF could have Jailbroken the phone right? How can I tell?

if you find a cydia icon somewhere thats a clue. if the iOS version is 6.1.3 or above in a 4S or a 5 its not jailbroken. you can go into the phone settings, scroll down and check if there are tweaks installed you dont recognise.

in any event, if your plan is to restore your daughter's phone the jailbreak would be removed.

I think you need to have a long talk with your ex. to check look for cydia also try a program like Ifunbox and see if it recognizes the iphone. if Ifunbox can access the iphone files and stuff it's jb. I think either way you and your girlfriend have some trust issues to discuss. if you go on youtube there are video to walk you through it.

I don't understand how the others have not gotten this already... Change the iCloud account. She probably set up an iCloud account of her own, attached it to your daughters phone and uses it to receive the sent and received iMessages on her iPad or iPhone. OR She knows the original iCloud account that is attached and she synced it to her iPad or iPhone.

Black and white, she's most likely not using her company tools to assist her

Thank you for all the advise. My daughter won't be back home for a week, I'll try these ideas then.

Does your daughter sync or charge her phone on his or their computer while she's with him?

There are programs available that can access the iPhone backup files and give access to everything and anything on the iPhone.

Things like: iMessages (pictures and video included), phone contacts and call durations, text messages (pictures and video included), pictures (texted, or saved on camera roll), and even notes (from the notes app, reminders, etc)

But odd how she's announcing she reads her messages? If it was to spy on you, she would have kept her mouth shut.

You could stop that by cancelling the contract with that service provider, but you would have to buy out the phone, after your did that you will have to put the phone under your name, so the GF can't get access to the phones history.
