Dawn of My Mac Century

Wheeeeeeee!

I finally bought my first Mac on Friday . However, this experience was not without problems I'm sad to say. After purchasing a 24" 2.4ghz iMac on Friday and experiencing my first unboxing experience, only one thing stood in the way of complete excitement.

One lone stuck pixel radiating a redness that was penetrating my skull.

Even though it was in the lower right section of the screen, the stuck pixel just wasn't going to do. So I lugged the defective iMac back to the Apple Store and walked out with a replacement after only 30 minutes and enduring Apple Store clerks jawing about how "they don't usually exchange for problems like this, but...." So now it's up and running and I'm happy.

There is one issue I'd like to throw out to everyone. Very randomly there is an audible clicking sound emanating from my speakers. It's sort of like the sound that happens when you unplug speakers from a computer that is currently on, but only one little "click" instead of a bunch. Anyone have an idea what this could be from?

A while back, a Tiger update caused the iMac speakers, and any connected speakers, to utter the exact same noise you speak of.

From what I remember, an iMac firmware update was released, halting the problem.


I have no idea if you need to update when you purchase a new iMac today, but my suggestion is to use Software update to search for any firmware updates.

I get that connecting noise problem every so often, hope it's not a hardware fault.

You're experience with the pixel is a bit rare.

But a lesson to be learned would be .....

Have them unpack, fire up, and test the computer before you walk off with it.

As for the noise I have owned two iMac's ... a G5 some time ago and currently a 24" Intel. ( about a month old ) I have no experience with that noise.
