Ipad slid out of car when I opened door today. Only 18 months old.

Lots of cracks in the screen, though it is still working.

Have to decide what to do. $450+tax for Apple repair. Buy a new iPad (such as the 10.5" Air.

In the short term, I'll go back to my Mini which, except for a battery that needs replacement, still works.

And maybe next time I buy a new iPad I'll buy a rugged case for it :)

I just dropped off my Macbook Pro 2015 model today for battery replacement. That, and a water leak at home has made this an expensive week.

I had a similar situation my iPad Air slipped off my bed and landed on the cable connection - broke the connection port on the iPad

The exact same thing happened to me. I upgraded to the Air 2 when it happened. I still have the Air in perfect condition, just can’t charge. I’ve been wondering what I should do with it.

Ha ha - me too - at least it had a full charge when it happened - bad landing

Still have it - dead now - probably not worth fixing

AppleCare+ and screen protector

I've gambled for many years not going with apple care and this is the first time it would have been useful (since I was still within 2 years).

I had it in a case with screen cover, but it turns out this was more protection from scratches/dust. Not dropping.

I wish now I had gone the rugged route. I've had iPads since the original 3G model and never had an issue even when dropped. If I buy a new one, or replace this screen, I'll replace the case with something more rugged like this.

I only bought this iPad since my Mini 4 was getting strange behavior with screen responsiveness/keyboard. After I bought this new one I reset it as new, and the behavior seems to have gone away. So, except for a battery that is needing replacement, it should suffice. Though I got used to the larger screen for digital magazines.

That sucks. I wish you a better week! :)

I also had a water leak Thursday. I'll have to check when I get home tomorrow to see whether I need to replace the carpeting. This is more urgent than an iPad.

At least I'm in better position than I would have been right after college. In theory I could just go and buy another iPad tomorrow with money in checking. Not the issue that a car accident can be, especially for someone underwater in a loan.

I’d ignore the air and look for a 10.5 pro in the refurb section of the Apple site. The pro is better than the air in every category minus the updated A12 that is used on the iPhones and is not a X chip. The pros chip is still a beast and was made for the iPad.

I looked at specs and I think I’ll go with the repair. Only advantage of paying a more for a “new” or refurbished one is option of ac+. I’ll buy a rugged case to replace the case I had.

Which iPad did you have? Just asking because you can get 6th generation iPads on Amazon (and Wal-Mart, and I’m sure other places as well) for $249. Of course that’s the 32 gb non-cellular version, so that may not work for you, but it’s cheaper than a $450 repair.

The iPad Pro 10.5" model with cellular and 256GB storage.

I could have got a new iPad Air 10.5" model for not much more, but it has lower specs than mine.

I'm going to order a better case.

Apple seems to repair pretty fast. I dropped off my Macbook Pro on after 6 pm on August 31 at an apple store for battery replacement. It was sent to Houston for repair (and both Sunday and Labor day followed). It arrived yesterday. So I'll probably have my iPad back later this week.

And boy did the Genius at the Apple store mangle my email address. I was wondering why I wasn't receiving any information on the repair.
