I have recently moved up to Capitan. All seems to be in order, until I de-installed iMovie.
As it is removed, I have App Store trying to update but never eventuating.
I tried to install it again so I could start all over again but it responded saying iMovie was already installed.

How can I remove any associated files and links to iMovie ?

Pete

Hi KALLT,

I remove all my apps by going to the Applications folder and dragging into WasteBin.
Normally CleanMyMac will kick in and I leave it to that to finalise the job.

Mac App Store applications should be deleted from the Launchpad (click and hold on the icon and select the cross icon).

Been down that road, not much happens. I click on Install, I then sign into the App Store and nothing occurs after that, so I guess it's pretty messed up. :-(

Did you read the last of his original post? :)

Ah, I overlooked that. Well, no worries. We’ll get there.

When you type the following into a Terminal prompt, does it have an entry for iMovie?
Code:
pkgutil --pkgs | grep apple

I suspect that there will be an entry like ‘com.apple.pkg.iMovie’. What we can try is removing that package there too, with the following command:
Code:
sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.<insert name here>

Have you tried rebooting in between by the way? The App Store has some weird glitches every now and then.

Try deleting these two files. That should allow you to reinstall it.
