Last week my 2 month old MBP crashed suddenly (!), while the computer was sitting still. No bumps or drops, etc. After tech support, and 4 days at the Apple Store, I've got a new drive, but they say that my old one is dead. I've got it here with me.
What can I do to try to recover the data myself? The drive was not recognized on my Mac in Transport mode back when it first broke, so if I put it in another enclosure what are the chances that it will fire up?

The data recovery guys are soooo expensive ($2k or so).

I have several 2 year old firewire pocket drives....would they work to mount the drive in, or do I need to buy another enclosure? What about putting the drive in a tower...hate to say it, but I don't know if it would fit.

Any ideas?
