Dead Hardrive?

Hey,

I've just run the apple firstaid utility on my hard drive after receiving this message when trying to install osx: "There were errors installing the software" First aid doesnt detect any problems, what should I do? I have already tried repairing and erasing the Hard drive.

The log shows like this on the install error:
Install Failed
Error Detected
Name: NSGenericExcpetion
Reason: Target volume is damaged and cannot be repaired by the installer.


eek, help?

This happened to me last August. My hard drive ultimately died on me. So yours might be dying. I'd recommend buying a new HD and replacing the one you currently have.

If it's still spinning, backup your stuff (since you've already tried reinstalls I'm assuming you've already done that) and just replace the drive. Since it's a 12" I'm guessing it's out of warranty unless you have Applecare. If you still have some left, get apple to look at it.

If not, get a drive from OWC and replace it. Will cost less than $100.

Never opened my Powerbook up before, is there any little snags I will need to know about?

oh, and - what hard drive do I need to buy? lol

If you go to the other world computing website and find your powerbook, it'll tell you which drives fit your computer
